Building "El Sueno Americano"
The Ortiz family migrated to Chicago from Central Mexico, with the brothers eventually finding their path in the construction industry. Darrell Ortiz, one of the brothers, started a mechanical contracting business. His son, Brian Ortiz, became the first in the family to attend college, earning the prestigious President’s Award Scholarship to the University of Illinois.
After graduation, Brian joined his father’s seven-year-old business. Together, Darrell and Brian worked for ten years, primarily on governmental projects, growing their business into a company with a sterling reputation and recognition as the top-performing MBE in Chicago. However, the low bid and slow pay nature of public work led the company to close in 2005.
Brian, after a stint with a national industrial contractor, saw an opportunity for diverse companies to work for large corporations and founded his first business in 2010. The company’s focus was on identifying clients, not just projects, and building lasting relationships with corporate partners who valued partnership, good work, and customer service.
We have steadily grown our businesses to support more than 30 Fortune 500 clients. However, corporate America continually asks about our capabilities and the scale of projects we can handle. In response, we formed Nacional Group. Nacional is poised to become the nation’s premier building solutions provider, expanding its corporate business nationally through strategic office locations, mergers and acquisitions, and strategic alliances.

Despite there being over five million Hispanic-owned companies in the U.S., only a handful are billion-dollar businesses.
